 | | flashback: club kinoto in shibuya (section of tokyo) in 2003. a well-fed
japanese youngster takes the stage, a sleazy omen for what may come. soon
the stage is filled with gorillas and bears with laser swords, young women
and men armed with microphones celebrating their live debut. shoot my
disco vs. tnt jackson. for the latter it was the first
time, and one smelled blood.
the trinity to those who love and to the myths of rock nīroll.
the three guys would like to tell similar stories to their upcoming debut
album "lovers", as well as tales about how
the band was founded amidst a near-fatal plane crash. but N
maintains that the title is the result of a reading mistake from a rough
sketch which turned "cover" into "lovers". a simple
misundertanding or an intentional oversight?
"on one hand we produced the album under a great degree of time pressure,
but it was also produced in the presence of friends, girlfriends, family
members, and other good people. people we like and love so the title "lovers"
is also a tribute to them.
"the album includes the voices of reinhold siebert
(play the tracks of), gustav (who can be heard on "pb"),
and chris corner (sneaker pimps/iamx), who details an
erotic experience on "you and my pearldiver". the path back
to classic instrumentals is led by john norman (radian)
and silber "prinz" otto, two geezers from the
karate joe posse with their contribution - fine drumming and bass on two
songs which push them to a new forefront.
after being influenced for years by a mix of gina x (the electropop number
"nice mover" influenced the band) and jeannie bell (the lead
from the 1975 film "tnt jackson", the bandīs namesake),
they decided to transfer this energy into new musical forms. this all
led to the debut album "lovers" which, like many debut albums,
is a collection of personal love stories. these produced tracks such as
the electro-stomper "followers of mumu", the
anti-zombie doom hymn "battery" or the down
and funky "idolized" highlighted by Tīs
voice and a certain rawness ("it was recorded in a small and shabby
apartment").
though "stylus magazine" said they would look "great in
gucci" the band prefers a do-it-yourself style. this means overalls,
glam and sweat "like the wild boys video from duran duran, but without
windmills", says T.
what began as an act three years ago has turned into an explosive experience
with impulsive lyrics and performances. the beat cracks, is extremely
groovy, unbridled wild, and very, very charming.
