thomas pötz aka kava is one of the most gifted and
obsessive talents to emerge from the austrian scene in the past couple
of years. born in 1981, producer, dj, record collector, noise and groove
enthusiast kava has been breaking serious ground since he committed his
life to making music. vienna plays a huge part in kavas life, which he
regards as his grass roots for inspiration.
from an early age the viennese electronica scene got into his bones but
it wasnt long before he was doing his own thing. kava's music encompasses
an irresistible mix of clicks n´cuts, noise symphonies, phat broken
beats, jazz funk driven vocal grooves, modern classic and even 80s synth
pop."
after remixing the likes of cay taylan (couch records), mauracher (fabrique)
and waxolutionists, appearing on compilations such as "delicious
tunes" and "superfabrique" he dropped his first ep "hidden
& direct" on fabrique in 2002. this 4 track ep smashed in the clubs
and on radio stations such as austria's fm4, coldcut's solid steel on
bbc radio one, london's xfm, radio magnetic, clyde 1 fm (glasgow) and
so forth.
the debutalbum "the empty hall sessions" (2004):
after being heavily involved with remixes and conceptual music productions,
producer, record collector, noise and groove enthusiast thomas pötz,
also known as kava dropped his first full length album
"the empty hall sessions". it is as if melodies were tamed to
put them in proper energy lines, just to have them burst through the speakers
as tightly wrapped bundles of musical power. soulful house, broken beats,
electronica, drum and bass, funk with lots of live sounding instruments,
samples and strong vocal content by noemi & angelina müllner. "the
empty hall sessions" is a brilliant debut for this austrian producer,
showcasing his ability to create musical intensity through mixing live music
with electronic and then finding chilling vocals to compliment it. (cvibes/australia) |
